But there are other, less well known faux pas that people are making every day at work that can get them and their employers in hot water. Here are five of them.Textual Harassment. Thinking about texting a co-worker on your company cell phone to ask if they want to go for a drink after work? Think again. If your advances are unwanted you could be accused of textual harassment and the accuser will have the electronic breadcrumbs to back up their claim.Privacy Breaches. Want to shoot your boss an email to let him know that a colleague wont be in today because she is going to the doctor for chemotherapy or a colonoscopy? Dont do it. HIPPA legislation was enacted to ensure that people are protected against having their health information exposed electronically.Emailing While Off Duty. Are some of your employees non-exempt workers who are paid a n hourly rate and are eligible for overtime pay? If so, your company may have a strict policy against them doing company work remotely on a company laptop or cell phone after hours.Blogging Without a Disclaimer. Pondering starting a blog to express your musings about life at a particular company? Check to see if your company has a social media policy. Many companies will either request that you dont mention your affiliation with the company on your personal blog or that you add a disclaimer stating that the views expressed on the blog are yours alone and not reflective of the companys position.Electronic Organizing. Union organizers are using electronic leafleting to encourage employees in non-union shops to print and sign authorization cards and distribute union literature. Many organizers have been able to fly under the radar of companies with these methods because they are not as invasive as traditional union activity, but before you forward that email to your co-workers, find out if your company has a clearly defined policy against this type of activity. Going against the company policy could land you on probation or cost you your job.

How do I Answer the Do you have any Questions, Question - Ask Me Anything Tuesday What reply does the interviewer expect when they ask, Do you have any questions for us? The interviewer genuinely wants to give you a chance to ask them anything. In turn allowing you to test whether or not the job is right for you. Secondly they want to see your passion for the company through your questions and get a true insight into you as a person. Ill start by saying you must ask at least one questions. Never leave an interview saying you have nothing further to add. First impression count but so do last impressions so leave the interview on a high not an anti-climax. You should have prepared your questions prior to the interview. Research the company and then you will be able to think of questions that are tailored to that role/organisation. Take notes into the interview so make a list of all your questions. Have more than one prepared, dont ask a question that has already been covered. It is so important to not repeat. An interview should be conversational and natural so when it comes to your time to quiz the interviewer take full advantage. Find out all the information you have not already learnt from the interview. Finally, interviews are two sided make sure you have all your questions ticked off before you leave. The second you leave an interview you should be able to say for certain whether or not you want to go forward with that position. Work Productivity MIT Research Points to This One Trait If you want to turn up your workflow, try turning down your email intake. That was a major finding from Robert Pozen, senior lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who created his very own âPozen Productivity Rating toolâ to help working professionals find out how productive they really are. Using responses from the 19,957 who voluntarily participated in the survey, Pozen and his team identified the groups of people with the highest productivity ratings and homed in on the habits those high-scorers practiced most regularly. The survey was made up of 21 questions, three pertaining to each of seven habits Pozen chose based on his personal productivity course and research for his book, Extreme Productivity: Boost Your Results, Reduce Your Hours: planning your schedule, developing daily routines, coping with your messages, getting a lot done, improving your communication skills, running effective meetings, and delegating to others. The respondent groups with the best overall average scores were seniors (ages 60 and up) and senior-level employees (C-Suite and executive employees). And there was one habit both scored particularly well on to get those high scores: Coping with their daily flood of messages. âAge and [job] seniority are very linked â" the more senior people tend to be a little older,â Pozen said. â[Both groups] have mastered managing the flow of information.â So does becoming an executive make you better at coping with messages or does coping with messages well make you an executive? Pozen, once an executive himself as a president of Fidelity Investments, says itâs a bit of both. âAs you move up and become more senior, you get more messages⦠but I think the skill of managing that helps you move up.â The data clearly shows that being good at dealing with your inbox is linked to productivity, and that the most productive people are at the top of the ladder. Logically, that makes sense: With the number of social media networks, media outlets, and personal and professional messaging platforms out there, itâs easy to feel like weâre drowning in notifications. Mastering that task would theoretically help you distinguish yourself in a sea of good employees. In practice, though, Pozen says managing incoming emails isnât the single most necessary habit of a productive person. Itâs an important skill â" one he says can be improved upon by using email filters and flagging important contacts â" but it needs to be paired with other, more big-picture habits in order to be effective. A few such habits were singled out in the survey results as well, and Pozen personally advocated for two in particular. âProbably the most important habit is whether you are geared to accomplishing a lot rather than putting in a lot of hours,â said Pozen. âAnd that leads to the second most important thing, which is whether youâve defined your highest priorities and youâre focused on your highest priorities.â Anyone who wants to spend their time more efficiently could look to seniors and executives for proof â" both scored well above average when it came to âgetting a lot doneâ and âplanning your schedule.â Productive peopleâs success, then, is in their ability to work hard instead of work long â" and that means sidelining your emails from time to time. Executives didnât excel at everything, though: the study found they fell behind lower-level employees when it came to ârunning effective meetingsâ and âdelegating to others.â Habits that âexcellent performersâ struggle with, according to Pozen. â[Employees] usually get promoted because theyâre great performers,â he said. âThey have a hard time delegating because they donât think itâll be done as well as they could do it.â

It is orange barrel season (did it ever end?) and itâs no surprise to encounter road work around every corner and on nearly every major thorough fare. Drivers were literally slamming on their brakes to slow down to 25mph. Have you ever seen people so eager to comply during rush hour? Well, a little device called Photo Traffic Control had successfully modified driver behavior on this bit of highway. For months a photo van had been installed there. Now there is none because it has effectively done its job. Are you tired of unsuccessfully searching for a job or career change? It may be time to change your job search behavior. There are many open positions posted on the internet but research shows these jobs are not the low hanging fruit they appear to be. 80% of jobs are gotten through networking yet many people refuse to believe it. How could this be possible?! More importantly, how is it possible you have not modified your job search behavior to include growing and using your network? Finding career satisfaction takes work. Itâs time to modify your behavior. What is your motivator? Get in touch with your motivator, write it down, journal about it daily and then get to work. Be sure to create some positive stimulators and treat yourself for the positive changes you make to your job search. For example, each time you go to a networking event set a goal. If your goal is to make 3 new connections and you do so successfully, time for a reward!
